FROM PROFESSOR TO CARDINAL
TO POPE TO HOLY FATHER EMERITUS
Before becoming Pope he spent many years as an academic serving as a professor of theology at various German universities—the last being the University of Regensburg—he was appointed Archbishop of Munich and Freising and cardinal by Pope Paul VI in 1977. In 1981, he settled in Rome when he became Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, one of the most important dicasteries of the Roman Curia. From 2002 until his election as Pope, he was also Dean of the College of Cardinals, and as such the primus inter pares among the cardinals.

MOST RESPECTED
"Dear young people": "Do not be afraid of Christ! He takes nothing away, and he gives you everything. When we give ourselves to him, we receive a hundredfold in return. Yes, open, open wide the doors to Christ -- and you will find true life. "Benedict XVI (Inauguration - April 24, 2005 - Vatican City)
AND INFLUENTIAL

He was "a major figure on the Vatican stage for a quarter of a century" as "one of the most respected, influential and controversial members of the College of Cardinals"; he had an influence "second to none when it came to setting church priorities and directions" as one of Pope John Paul II's closest confidants.

'THE GLORY
OF THE OLIVE'
Choosing the name Benedict XVI opened up many prophetic words from centuries past who labeled the new pope 'The Glory of the Olive'. Only time will tell how right these words are.  A few of these news items have brought us inspiration for a rosary inspired by our 265th Holy Father. The word Benedict means 'Blessings' and the order of 6th century St. Benedict is often called the 'Olivetans' has as its symbol the olive branch. (Peace maker).

MAKE PEACE BEFORE ...
"Pray for your enemies in the love of Christ, Make peace, before the setting of the sun, with those from whom you have been separated by discord, and never despair of the mercy of God." Much has been said recently re JPII being 'De Labore Solis',  (from the labor of the sun.) so this prophetic quote by St. Benedict makes one ponder.
+
+
...  THE SETTING OF THE SUN
JP II was often thought of as 'De Labore Solis',  (from the labor of the sun.) On the day of his funeral (April 8 2005) there was an eclipse of the sun as on the day of his birth. He was born during an eclipse (May 18, 1920).   Eclipses of the sun have been thought of as 'signposts' or 'warnings' for centuries having heralded world events.  He was 'Mary's Pope' of the 3 secrets of Fatima '(Miracle of the Sun'.) And the sun rises in the East as did JP II who was from Poland.

AVE BEADS:  Both rosaries are made from olivewood purchased in Jerusalem.(Carved: 10mm beads, Plain: 8mm)  Carved design represents a rose for the garden of Mary.PATER BEADS: WHY TOURMALINE? The depth of color on each stone is especially rich and beautiful. Note the lower was turned to show the hand faceted cuts. We chose it as it complimented the Olivewood so beautifully especially with the antiqued filigree caps at each end. The blue glass caps speak of Mary.
+
WHY OLIVEWOOD?
Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, our 265th pope, Benedict XVI, is not a Benedictine but a Diocesan Priest but  the name  he chose, Benedict, gave us a road sign - or the direction of his time as leader of the Roman Catholic Church.

~ CLOISONNE' ROSARY ~
   A NEW SPRINGTIME
Because of this New Springtime, we have set Paters of cloisonne' that enrich the carved (roses) olivewood beads from Israel, both of which have a theme of flowers, symbolizing the new Springtime and of Mary. The spacers are random faceted beads that reflect the cloisonn? colors in a refreshing and special way.

TRUSTING THE CHURCH TO THE YOUTH
He has also spoken of the 'New Springtime,' backing the words of John Paul II. He, puts a great deal of trust in the youth of our world who are rising up as a strong new church that backs the church as given to us by Christ himself 2000 years ago. When interviewed as Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger on EWTN, he spoke to Raymond Arroyo of ths New Springtine coming forth in new communities, new life, who will bring back' the joy of faith,' and even small in numbers, our youth our young people are beginning to radiate this joy which will be the 'central life of tomorrows church'.

~ ST BENEDICT MEDAL ~
JUBILEE MEDAL (1880)
WHAT IT ALL MEANS
In 1647 a manuscript dating back to 1415 was found at the Abbey of Metten (Bavaria), giving an explanation of the letters on the art. They are the initial letters of a Latin prayer of exorcism against Satan.
+
+
POWER AGAINST EVIL
The blessed Benedictine medal carries the same power against evil as does the true cross. The round Benedictine medal, the one we are most familiar with, is called the Jubilee Medal (struck in 1880 marking the 1000 th anniversary of St. Benedict's birth) But many existed before this time, including the ones used on the rosaries and chaplets here. All carry the same powerful message of intercession below:
  WHAT THE
ST BENEDICT MEDAL SAYS
+
The reverse of the medal bears a cross
with the initial letters on the vertical bar:
- C  S  S  M  L -
"Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux"
THE HOLY CROSS BY MY LIGHT
 +
Across the horizontal bar; the initial letters:
- N  D  S  M  D -
"Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux"
LET NOT THE DRAGON BE MY GUIDE
 +
Around the cross; each in a circle, the letters:
- (C) - (S) - (P) - (B) -
"Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti"
IN THE ANGELS OF THE CROSS
(The cross of our holy father Benedict)
 +
Around the margin of the medal, the initial letters:
- V  R  S  N  S  M  V
"Vade Retro Satana, Nunquam Suade Mihi Vana
- S  M  Q  L  I  V  B -
Sunt Mala Quae Libas, Ipse Venena Bibas"
BEGONE, SATAN, DO NOT SUGGEST TO ME THY VANITIES.
EVIL ARE THE THINGS THOU PROFFEREST.
 DRINK THOU THY OWN POISON.
+
At the top of the cross - Pax (peace).

SYMBOLS OF THE
OBVERSE SIDE IMAGE BELOW:
St Benedict standing in center, holding the cross in his right hand, the book of monastic rule ("walk in God's ways, with the Gospel as our guide."). On a pedestal to the right of St. Benedict is the poisoned cup shattered when he made the sign of the cross over it. On a pedestal to the left is a raven about to carry away a loaf of poisoned bread, sent by a jealous enemy to St. Benedict.

USED ON OUR ROSARIES
( Reverse is the same as the Jubilee Medal from 1880)
 MEDAL OF BENEDICT
PRAYER OF EXORCISM
The blessed medal of St. Benedict carries the prayer of exorcism against the ways of Satan. Review the words above and hear what they say. Repeat them often . It is a prayer for peace, not only in the world but amongst ourselves through the intercession of St. Benedict. It calls 'for the Cross of Christ to be our light and our guide' and becomes a constant reminder that we are to follow Christ and not to be influenced by the 'Dragon' or the devil, satan. We are not to drink his poison but to tell him to drink his own poison. It give us strength in times of temptation and reminds us that we are to reject satan and all his ways. The evil influences in the world today are very very powerful because they are so subtle.

Wearing or keeping the Medal of Benedict on our person or in our wallet is a constant reminder of this spiritual warfare around us! Keeping one in our car, on our computer, anywhere it is visible is wonderful, although if hidden from sight, it still carries the power and message of hope against the evil one.  Attach one to your rosary or pray the prayer of the 'niner' daily. This may also be a novena prayer.

 INTERCESSION OF ST BENEDICT
"The intercession of St. Benedict is known to have power and our faith can release this power.  The medal is reminder that we are protected by the power of Christ."

In past history it is known to have: Destroyed witchcraft and all other diabolical influences.  +  'Keep away the spells of magicians, of wicked / evil-minded persons. +  Impart protection to persons tempted, deluded or tormented by evil spirits. +  Obtain the conversion of sinners, especially when in danger of death. + To serve as an armor in temptations against holy purity. + Destroy the effects of poison. + Secure a timely and healthy birth for children. + Afford protection against storms and lightning. + To serve as an efficacious remedy for bodily afflictions and a means of protection against contagious diseases. + Finally, the Medal has often been used with admirable effect even for animals infected with plague or other maladies, and for fields when invaded by harmful insects.'
