The other day, I received a query '... could you identify a little chaplet we have. It has 3 sets of 3 beads. It has a little medal at the bottom but it is worn beyond recognition.'I didn't have a clue. Then yesterday, when I was looking for vintage medals, crucifixes and rosaries on the internet, the Lord led me back to Barbara Spears (The Yankee Lady - Antiques). Not a coincidence. She was selling a little chaplet called a 'niner'on on Ebay. It was from the Oratory of St Joseph ( Mount Royal, MI). ... A

Because of the nature of the 'Niners' in this series, we will change the medal to your favorite intercessory saint using any of the beads shown in this series - just ask! + ... Last night I was asking Clara - one of the guild member - about this unusual count of 9 beads and she said, 'Oh, I have one in my car!' Where have I been, I thought! So we learn. Barbara, who is an old internet friend, also mentioned that information on the 'niner' may be found in an old book called THE RACCOLTA (Collection) re-published by Benzeger Brothers 1944, which is on prayers and indulgences. She listed 15 chaplets with this configuration of beads, mostly saints. One was for the Consecration to the Holy Family, another for the dying (St Joseph), and another for the Acts of Adoration. + So these little chaplets with 3 sets of 3 beads have been around a long time, they have a history. Its more than just a tradition, as it appears, they also carried certain indulgences. A perfect prayer form to renew in a busy day. |

Antiques Dealer Barbara Spear has done us all a great service in her love for information and research on old rosaries and chaplets. On her website she has a wonderful page where you may personally research and identify unusual counts of beads on rosaries and chaplets. Thanks, Barbara! |

We believe the RosaryWorkshop.com is being directed to make our rosaries a more visual and symbolic journey of the dedication than it has in the past. You will not only see more of this direction used through color choices but in texture. When you see them, we hope you will be more visually in touch with the story. And when you pray them we hope 2000 years of history will melt. Not only with Our Lady as she tells the story of her beloved son, but with the one to whom the rosary is dedicated or the scripture passage that inspired it. We hope and pray this will help open up a 4th and new dimension of spirituality in your heart. |
