It may be from the hand of a child or that of a master painter, it makes no difference. As the observer, each of us responds to art that is truly from the heart. We simply know truth when we encounter it as it is built in us from the day of our conception. We not only recognize the Song in our hearts, we hear it in our eyes. The artist must hear the Song of Songs in the heart before he or she paints it or it falls short of its goal of drawing the soul to the Lord. + TASTE AND SEE THE LORD IS GOOD! + ART THAT TEACHES Early religious art not only paid homage to events and saints, it also had a purpose, that of visual aids. The masterpiece was not meant to be worshipped like an idol but to give a visual reminder and to teach a people who could not read or did not have access to the media as we do today. + GIVING VISUAL GLORY TO GOD The paintings below are only a sampling of the fine religious arts available to us today. As a liturgical artist for over 50 years, it has been very important to honor and support the truly beautiful works of art over the poor religious art on the market today. We choose to give visual glory to God. + THE ROSARY IN ART The tradition of using the rosary or prayer beads in art became popular during the periods shown below. The rosary was used in portrait art to show the character and faith of many famous men and women. It also was a symbolic precursor of the coming life of Christ when shown with the Virgin and Child. + With special thanks to Wikipedia for their beautiful collection of fine art.
