(for more information and more links to collections see below) + OUR GERMAN COLLECTOR MUSEUM COLLECION SERIES from private collections who have given us permission to use their images so we may be inspired by and may learn more about antique rosaries, chaplets and prayer beads. + This filigree is a chain rosary as compared to a strung rosary. A wonderful example of this period and very popular with pilgrims who would add religious charms, medals and small reliquaries as mementos from the holy sites as they traveled from place to place. for more information

*BEADS and CROSS*
+ CROSS OF WOOD AND MOTHER OF PEARL [This is] a typical filigree rosary from South Germany. Faceted red glass beads and a really nice cross with wood and mother of pearl (I can´t find the word for intarsia). I estimate the age about the second half of the 18th century. + TRADITIONAL CREDO-KREUZ TRADITIONAL CREDO CROSS The two crosses above are typical of the Filigree Rosary. The smaller one, the pendant is called a CREDO-KREUZ (Creed Cross) and is to remind the pray-er to ask for an increase of FAITH, HOPE and LOVE (see Council of Trent). Also for some traditions the credo cross was to remind one to pray the creed. |
