signs of hope for today + TWO MIRACLES RDPF - PESHTIGO FIRE NATURAL DISASTERS SERIES + THE PESHTIGO FIRE WAS THE LARGEST FIRE DISASTER OUR NATION HAS EVER KNOWN. READ BELOW THE HISTORY OF THEIS FORGOTTEN FIRE AND WHAT IS BELIEVED TO H AVE CAUSED IT. + THE TWO MIRACLES OF 1871 We have heard beautiful witnesses regarding the power of the rosary throughout the centuries. It is good to know that the rosary was again a powerful prayer during the terrible fire of October 8, 1871 that destroyed Chicago, Peshtigo WI and many other towns in its path including a small town we know today as Champion WI. +
WORTHY OF BELIEF FIRST VATICAN APPROVED APPARITION OF MARY HERE IN THE UNITED STATES. Remembering that Mary warned Sister Adele 12 years to the day (Oct 8 1869) that people must repent their ways or suffer the consequences. Today this Vatican approved apparition is the first 'worthy of belief' and is here in the United States. + The rosary above was inspired by the miracle of the tabernacle. (read more below). This was our pleasure. But the most important thing anyone can do is to pray your rosary daily. Remembering the rosary is the telling of Gods love story. If you do not have a rosary, you may also use your fingers! + ISAIAH 56:1-2
BEING PREPARED May these words above along with those given in the messages of our Lady of Good Help from her son, touch our hearts and that we are called to repentance, forgivenesss and to seek salvation for not only ourselves but for all we know by also praying the rosary. We know not the time or the hour. read more history
below, see how the Lord worked.

*PESHTIGO FIRE 1871* |
*ROBINSONVILLE FIRE - 1871* |
+ AVE BEADS: On sunday, October 8th 1871 a fire in Robinsonville WI (Champion) near New Frankin, fell from the sky - 12 years to the day after the first Apparition of Our Lady to Sister Adele. The profound thing was that this would happen the same day and at the same time as the Peshtigo and Chicago fires happening on Sunday evening around 9p. + THEY PROCESSED ON THEIR KNEES PRAYING THE ROSARY It started quickly giving the people little time to respond but those nearby ran to the chapel for cover bringing their animals with them to the area inside the picket fence. Fr. Pernin, shared that Sister Adele told him later, "that they processed on their knees, praying the rosary" carrying a statue of Our Lady. As the firestorm became too much to bear, they entered the chapel and prayed before the Eucharist. It would be the Eucharist again, as in the Tabernacle that was saved in Peshtigo. protected by Merciful Grace of our Eucharistic Lord. + OUTSIDE THE FENCE THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT After the fire, on Sunday, October 9th, the 12th anniversary of Our Lady's messages to Sr Adele, they discovered everything around them had burned. There was nothing left. The flames had arched over and around the little chapel and the school. Williamsonville to the north had been destroyed (est loss of life, 60) and in New Frankin to the East (est loss of life 14). The town of Brussels was gone. + INSIDE THE FENCE HAD BEEN CONSECRATED TO OUR LADY Remember the little white picket fence that was built to surround the chapel, on about 5 - 6 acres of land? That land had been consecrated to the Blessed Virgin years before. The land outside the fence including the fence was burned black on the outside. On the inside, facing the chapel the picket fence was still white and the grass was still green! Father Pernin wrote, "it shone out like an emerald island amid a sea of ashes." + HER MESSAGE BECAME CLEARER THAN EVER Even the animals inside the fence were alive. Remember the words from our Lady to Sister Adele? Remember the first apparition was 12 years to the day Saturday, Oct 8,1859 from the day of the fire, and on Sunday October 9, 1871 the day after the fire and the day of the actual message in 1859, these words below never were more clear. +
A SUMMARY The 1870 census recorded 1744 people in Peshtigo. It was believed with an influx of over a 1000 more workers, sometimes 50 to 100 arriving daily, many were unaccounted for, remembering many were simply burned to ashes. The death toll in Chicago was about 250, and in Peshtigo over 2400+. In Robinsonville, the loss of life outside of the fenced in area was unknown and probably added to the toll under Peshtigo. The Peshtigo fire covered over 2,400 square miles which included surrounding areas. This would be the largest overall deadliest fire in American history, before or since. + Prayers were answered as the heavens spilled down a quiet rain putting out the fires in Robinsonville and Peshtigo. |
VISITS SISTER ADELE Shortly after the fire, Father Peter visited the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help and spoke to Sister Adele Brise in Robinsonville. Father was looked upon as a hero for his efforts to save lives before, during and after the Peshtigo fire. When he left he wrote that there was strong evidence of a Marian apparition but since there had been no "official ecclesiastical judgment" he could only encourage others to visit. +
FATHER PETER WROTE “I have no intention either of passing judgment on the apparition of the Blessed Virgin and the pious pilgrimages which have resulted from it. Ecclesiastical authority has not yet spoken on the subject; it silently allows the good work to advance, awaiting perhaps some proof more striking and irrefutable before pronouncing its fiat. Far from me be the thought of forestalling ecclesiastical judgment. + I EARNESTLY ENCOURAGE THEM TO GO “I have but another word to add. If it lay within the power of any of my readers to proceed to the spot and visit this humble place of pilgrimage, as yet in its infancy, and the only one, I believe, of its nature in the United States, I earnestly counsel them to go. There, they can see and question Adele Brise, who, without having sought it, is the soul and heroine of a good work, progressing with rapid strides from day to day; and I feel assured that, like myself, all those who have gone thither with an upright intention, they will return edified and happy at heart, if not convinced, of the reality of Our Lady's apparition.” + FIRST APPROVED APPARITION IN U.S. Locally, a few considered the apparition an urban legend but many others took Mary's visitation seriously and pilgrimages began. On December 8th 2010, during the feast of the Immaculate Conception, the Apparition was approved by the church, Bishop David Ricken of the Diocese of Green Bay presiding. Our Lady of Good Help / Queen of Heaven, is the first approved Apparition in the US and ranks with the other 11 in the world. (ie: Guadalupe, Lourdes, Fatima) +
BISHOP RIKENS: "WORTHY OF BELIEF' "I declare with moral certainty and in accord with the norms of the church that the events, apparitions and locutions given to Adele Brise in October of 1859 do exhibit the substance of supernatural character, and I do hereby approve these apparitions as worthy of belief (although not obligatory) by the Christian faithful." + Bishop Ricken added of Sister Brise, "She really had an evangelistic spirit … and lived that out, not just immediately after the message, but her whole life long." |
GOVERNMENTAL PERFECTION The number 12 in Judaic numerology symbolizes GOVERNMENTAL PERFECTIONin heaven and on earth. Completion. + The decree of the first council of Baltimore (1846) elected Mary in her Immaculate Conception. principal patron of the United States was confirmed on Feb 7th 1847 + add 12 years Three apparitions of our lady to Sister Brise from Our Lady of good Help, 'Queen of Heaven October 8 ? 9, 1859 + add 12 years to the day Great Peshtigo Fire - Great Chicago Fire, Champion / Robinson Fire (MI, WI, IL) October 8, 1871 + ON THE FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION December 8, 2010 Bishop David Rickin of the Green Bay Diocese officially declares the apparitions of 1859 as "WORTHY OF BELIEF" making these the first approved apparitions of our Lady in the U. S. (rating them with Lourdes, Fatima and Guadalupe by the Vatican) |
REVELATION 12 - THE WOMAN AND THE DRAGON A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. |
ON OUR LADYS PRAYER O my Jesus, pardon us, and save us from the fire of Hell; draw all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need.’” (Our Lady requested we pray during the rosary Sister Lucy wrote from apparition of 13 July) |
While in Virginia recently I had a chance to share our new site dedicated to Our Lady of Good Help with Father James Gould. He asked if I knew about the first Jesuit church in Chicago that had also escaped the fire in 1871, Holy Family. + He shared that when the Chicago fire of 1871 was spreading toward the church, the pastor, Fr Damen, (who was in Brooklyn preaching a parish mission) on notification, invoked Our Lady of Perpetual Help to protect and save the church. He promised to light 7 candles before her statue if the church was spared. + The wind shifted and the church was spared, and the 7 candles were lit. To this day 7 electric lights burn in Our Lady’s shrine in the east transept of the church. And another Tabernacle holding the Eucharistic Christ was saved! + It turned out that this church was the church that Patrick and Catherine O’Leary, owners of the worlds most famous cow, were parishioners and lived just a few blocks away at 137 DeKoven Street! Father Gould added, ‘I have ancestors that lived across the way from the O’Learys!’ |
NEVER THOUGHT OF 'TILL NOW ABOUT HEALING ROSARIES + THE UNKNOWN ROSARY YOU PRAY It is sobering to realize that where we make rosaries today was part of the Peshtigo fire area. It is humbling to believe - in some small way - these rosaries that travel all over the earth from this very spot on the map, could not only help heal the land of this terrible tragedy but in some small mystical way - touch the thousands of souls of those who never had a chance. All through the prayers of an unknown rosary. + THE ROSARY SEARCHES OUT The unknown rosary each of you pray. The rosary that searches out the eternal heavens, where God knows all - that has happened, is happening and will happen. Is it possible that not only do our prayers - in some small, unknown way - today - help illuminate - become a healing part of Mary's timeless visit in 1859 and the fire victims 12 years later? There are no words to explain the mysteries of God but some day we will know, but today we are asked to reach out in prayer for all. + TRUSTING GOD'S WISDOM For years I wondered why of all places 'did I end up in the UP of MI' - and 'why would someone who never prayed the rosary be called to make them.' And as a convert to the faith - regarding Catholics and Mary, I just didn't 'get it' - but trusted God's wisdom! + GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME Now I am at peace with those questions and yes, this goes for the guild. All four of us live on the same fire scorched, healing land, and we all pray the rosary, now 'especially remembering those in most need of God's mercy through intercessory prayer.' God is good! All the time + RAW |
