Jasper is a category unto itself in the world of stones. It is a type of quartz but jasper is different as is made up of little quartz crystals and the way they are layered and joined together creates the design. Much of the design depends on the way it is cut by the lapidarist as each may carry a multitude of options. Some names depend on origin and names tend to overlap! The ones used here are smooth on one side and show their natural texture on the other. It is also a form of chalcedony. + Our vender called these beads 'Ocea Jasper' and we discovered they are very popular and fairly recent at the Gem shows like Tucson (2000). It is an “orbicular” jasper found in Madagascar. It is also a rhyolite and is unique among jaspers as some stones are more translucent than opaque. (google for more info) + Job 12:8 (Tanakh)
