NO VOICE IS HEARD - RLS.21300 Dk brown lava / spotted chalcedony: AVE BEADS: The dark brown lava is no mystery. It is a deep color and visually supports the very hard to find spotted chalcedony. PATER BEADS: Purchased over 5 years ago. Each stone is hand faceted and in its natural state. Not a lot of information out there re the spotted chalcedony at this time. Noted where shown, sells out quickly. Ours is especially lovely. Red is from Sard or carnelian, black from deposits of Onyx. Each signature is different. for larger icon, click image for more information

BE PRAISED O LORD II - RLS.21640 gray-wood / ocean jasper: AVE BEADS: 10 mm Greywood make up the Ave bead in this series. A beautiful compliment to the Pater Beads shown here. PATER BEAD: Ocean Jasper, also mentioned above is a category unto itself. The variations are amazing! Because it is a natural stone, it will vary from bead to bead. Note the tiny creatures who left their signatures all through these stones ... their richness does not show uless held in the hand under natural light ... + Jasper is one of the 12 gems set into the foundations of the city walls of Jerusalem, and is considered a highly protective stone by ancients. for larger icon, click image for more information

Bead also called "heaven's bead" or "heaven's pearl") - These lace agates are newly mined and manufactured and have no history with any other culture. PATER BEADS: Another great find at a recent Bead Show - from Czechoslovakia, these glass beads are called ' Carved Ovals with a matte finish - we love them! And love the way the antiqued filigree caps capture the bead and hold it in place! for larger icon, click image for more information

~ LIVING STONE 'TENNERS' ~ |
Early 10 bead prayer counters were very popular with men in the 15c. It was not unusul to see these old 10 bead chaplets or 'Zehners with tassels on one end, sometimes one would even see a little cross attached to the tassel. Why a tassel? tradtion tells us it was to 'wipe away one's sinful tears' + AN ANCIENT TRADITION
for more information and to order: RLS:21311 - chaplet + Here we have used 8 mm blue lapiz stones (above) and red tiger eye stones (below). Rings are 100 years old and quite rare (more below). Tassels are new. |
FOR YOUR FIVE FINGERS As you may have guessed, the ring is passed from finger to finger to complete the five decades of the rosary. We see this tradition in the Irish penal chaplets, which helped them to keep them out of sight of the red coats who were out to destroy the faith of the Catholics during the Penal times. +
ANTIQUE BRONZE RINGS Each ring was individually cast over 100 years ago using the 'lost wax' method. Lost wax casting (cire perdue) is a method where metals such as silver, gold, brass or bronze are cast in a single mold which is destroyed to retrieve the casting, in this case, a ring. This method dates back before 3500 BC. |
Why a tassel? Tradition tells us that it was to 'wipe away one's tears because of sin! A great little chaplet for those who are historical reenactors, or enjoy being a part of history in renaissance fairs, etc. +
We were delighted to find these little metal tassels, probably not very old but we thought they would work for these little 'Tenners'. The early ones (15c) were of course, made of strips of fabric, ribbons, threads and decorative cords. |
~ CREATURES ~ |
with great-filled thanks to Father Corey + THE TECHNICAL DEFINITION OF A CREATURE IS "SOMEONE OR SOMETHING THAT IS BROUGHT ABOUT BY THE ACT OF CREATION." + PSALM 8:5-7
"CRITTERS" The two definitions of a critter are 1. a domesticated animal. 2. any creature. Whatever your definition of "critter" is, it is a type of creature, because all critters are a result of the creation of God. + PSALM 98:7-9
"CREATURES" So stones can be called creatures or the creation of God. The reason that all of God's creation proclaims His awesome glory is because God puts a little bit of Himself in each one of His creations. Some things in their awesome complexity proclaim the order and beauty of God. Mountains proclaim the majesty of God. Stars proclaim the omnipresence of God and so forth. |
We picture the desert fathers using these pebbles, but unlike ours, their counting stones were probably unpolished, unstrung and kept in a leather pouch! But you will also see more elegant, faceted stones that reveal their individual identity and inner beauty. Rosaries made from these gemstones are often strung in their natural form as chunks or chips inspired by our sages of the ancient past. + PRECIOUS STONES FORMED OUT OF DARK ROCK "Father Joe shares: "In an advanced class in Volcanic Molten Rock we watched precious stones form out of the dark rock mass as minerals combined with the cooling magma crystalized and formed rubies, diamonds and glittering precious stones in the inky black mass. We could not control which precious stones appeared and the process in 1974 was too expensive to do commercially." then Father adds: + "GOD PUT JUST AS MANY COLORS UNDER THE EARTH ... " "I felt like I was seeing the spirit of God create a rainbow of colors in the darkness. The geologist teaching the class said: “God put just as many colors under the earth has he put above the earth to draw men to faith in the Master Designer to praise Him. Jesus said if people were told to shut up and not praise him ----" + SPEAK TO THE EARTH " --- The stones in the earth deserve our full investigation and study, Speak to the earth, study creation, and she shall reveal her secrets and point you to the creator of all things the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit --- + --- We worship not creation but Almighty God revealed in the Holy Scriptures. But his creatures rejoice." + PSALM 24:1-2

~ CONSIDER the LILIES ~ |
DISCOURAGING FAMILY NEWS I was really discouraged as my sister had passed a few weeks ago. And now I just heard another sister had a heart attack and pneumonia. I went out the back door and this is what I saw. After some really violent thunderstorms, I discover the lilies had opened, the rain on the blooms spoke volumes - our Lord is in control. + IT WAS AS IF ...
+ REMEMBER THE LILIES Jesus said, "Remember the lilies. Remember Joseph, He holds (your sister) in the palm of His nail scared hands". + image and words shared by Father Joseph CONSIDER THE LILIES

Job 12:8 (Tanakh)
A HIDDEN GEM Here is one of my favorite hidden gems in a Bible verse. It is from the book of Job the oldest book in the Bible. Documenting Job’s steadfast faith in Almighty God, even when Satan is permitted by God to remove Job’s wealth, his family, possessions, health and leave him with useless friends and the nag of a wife. (God paid Job’s wife back by having to birth all those children again! My friendly Rabbi said this to me in a course on Job.) - shared by Fr Joe |
