+ 10/11/2012 - 11/24/2013 RYF - YEAR of FAITH RYFE - NEW EVANGELIZATION 'MARY, STAR of the NEW EVANGELIZATION' New Evangelization offers the gifts of faith, hope, love and new life in Christ. Our Lady covers / protects us with her mantle of stars. + She left her imprint on the tilma for all of America and for the whole world to see! WERE THERE SIGNS OF A PLAN BEFORE SHE CAME?
WHY OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE? MARIAN FROM THE VERY BEGINNING "The evangelization of America was, from its beginnings, marked by the Marian presence. We are able to say that the historical and cultural identity of the Latin American countries “is symbolized in a most luminous manner in the “mestiza” countenance of Mary of Guadalupe, who has revealed herself at the beginning of the evangelization" (cf. John Paul II, Address at the Opening of the Fourth General Conference of Latin American Bishops, October 12, 1992, no.24). + PRAYER OF JOHN PAUL II
MORE NOW THAN EVER NEW EVANGELIZATION The church exists to evangelize. And we are all called to participate. We are all invited to renew our relationship with Jesus Christ and the Church We need to listen. Our Nation is at risk of being who we are, more today than ever before. The bishops remind us that we are not only to evangelize others but first we must deepen our own faith. "Believe in the Gospel and go forth to procaine the Gospel. We are all called. We are all called to walk with those who have had a crisis in faith, either in the Catholic Church or in their personal lives. + Pope Benedict XVI has called for the re-proposing of the Gospel "though those regions awaiting the first evangelization and to those regions where the roots of Christianity are deep but who have experienced a serious crisis of faith due to secularization" + OUR LADY TO JUAN DIEGO, THE "SINGING EAGLE"
Why do we need the New Evangelization? THE NEW EVANGELIZATION OFFERS HOPE The New Evangelization offers hope. Jesus grants all people rest and comfort from the world's burdens (Mt. 11:28) by offering us the hope of salvation and eternal life. Through the “re-proposing” of the Gospel, the Church seeks to comfort all those who are burdened. The New Evangelization offers the gifts of faith, hope, love and new life in Christ. + HOW DID SHE MANIFEST HERSELF ON THIS CONTINENT? and --- "To conclude, I would like to turn my thoughts to Tepeyac, to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Star of the first and the new evangelization of America. To her I entrust the pilgrim Church in Mexico and the American continent, and I fervently ask her to guide her children, so that they will enter the third millennium with faith and hope” (John Paul II, Homily, January 24, 1999). learn more about

*SIGNS OF A MASTER PLAN ?* |
WE DELIGHT IN HIS SIGNS ALONG THE WAY + DID YOU KNOW? COLUMBUS WAS 40 YEARS OLD In 1491 Christopher Columbus was forty years old. In 1491 Fr Perez, Queen Isabella's confessor, asked her permission for Columbus to sail ... (By the time they were ship ready it would be 1492). + VISITED THE IMAGE Before sailing, the explorer Columbus traditional of Conquistadors, visited and prayed in front of the image of the Lady of Guadalupe in Extremadura Spain. He took a replica of the image on his journey. While there he renamed his 3 ships --- + AND RENAMED HIS SHIPS --- the 'Santa Maria de la Conception' (a cargo ship). 'The Nina' (The Girl) and 'Pinta' (Painted) (were both Caravels). The first prayer said in the New World was the Salve Regina, in honor of Mary. + OUR LADY of GUADALUPE (Extremadura SPAIN) from 1326 on
the Evangelist as artist) + OUR LADY VISITS 40 YEARS LATER Little did they know that in 40 years, 1531 the names of the 3 ships would be prophetic. The Simple garment of Juan Diego, the tilma, would carry the image of 'The young girl, Mary', 'painted' on its surface. + Several years after Cortez wiped out the Aztes, Mary came to the heart of America on December 9th the feast day of 'Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception" (Dec 9th was celebrated as her feast day in Spain before the 8th as today) The Aztecs 'read' the symbols on her blue mantle covered with stars. he Aztecs knew stars symbolized a new nation. (read more about the symbols - including the name Guadalupe below) + WHY THE NUMBER 40? The number 40 tells us to pay attention, something important is happening. And in many cases, it points to a new chapter in salvation history. A time of purification. A commitment is completed. Think of scripture and how 40 days, 40 years is used. |
*LONG BEFORE WE KNEW* |
Long before we knew about the scientific discovery of the mystery of Our Lady of Guadalupe's eyes. Long before we knew the positioning of the stars on her mantle were in alignment with the stars in the heavens when she visited Juan Diego in 1531. Or that her image covers half the sky from the constellation Corona to her feet in the belt of Orion where the stars are born, the Aztecs read symbols in her garment. + AZTECS READ THE SYMBOLS Her garment carried symbols the Aztecs could 'read'. 1. They saw the rays around her covering their sun god. 2. They knew she was pregnant because she wore a sash around her waist. 3. They saw the four petal flowers on her tummy symbolizing divinity - her child was God. 4. They saw the brooch at her neck with the same cross of the Spaniards ships (the dream of Montezumas sister saw in a dream) 5. They saw she was bowing as to another god. 6. And they knew only royalty wore a garment that carried the symbols of their station. She wore a garment of stars. She evangelized them without saying a word. 7. Again, the Aztecs knew stars symbolized a new nation. + COATLAXOPEUH: GUADALUPE Speaking in the Aztec language (nahuatl), Our lady answered, when Juan Diego asked her name "de coatlaxopeuh, pronounced “quatlasupe” sounds like the Spanish word 'Guadalupe'. Coa (serpent) 'tla' (the) 'xopeuh' (to crush). Which translates as the one who 'crushes the serpent'. + GENESIS 3:14-15
TEPEYAC HILL Therefore, Our Lady referred to Herself as the one who “crushes the serpent.” Actually, Tepeyac Hill was the site of ancient temple built to honor the Aztec goddess Tonantzin “divine mother", (serpent) "Honored Grandmother", (Snake) Read more below why Christian chapels / temples / churches have been planted over temples of gods for centuries. |
*BIRTH of CHURCH in AMERICA* |
WAS MARKED FROM ITS BEGINNING BY A MARIAN PRESENCE - BLESSED JPII + “May love for the Mother of God, so characteristic of American piety, help guide your own life according to the spirit and values of the Gospel, so that you may bear witness to them in the world. Our Lady of Guadalupe, intimately associated with the birth of the Church in America, was the radiant Star which illumined the proclamation of Christ the Savior to the children of these peoples, helping the first missionaries in their evangelization. I ask her, who bore the ‘Good News of God’ in her womb to help them be witnesses of Christ to others” (John Paul II, Angelus Message in Mexico, January 24, 1999). |
*SHE WAS PREGNANT* |
SHE WAS PREGNANT The sash around her waste told the Aztecs she was pregnant. And on her womb she wore a four leafed flower that for the Aztecs was a symbol of divinity. This told the Aztecs that child she carried was the true God. After her visit, there were thousands of conversions to Christianity by the Aztec people. Records tell us over 3000 daily. + OVER 20,000 HUMAN SACRIFICES A YEAR We are reminded that the Aztecs sacrificed over 20.00 men, women and children each year to honor their gods. These rites often included cannibalism of their victims. History reminds us that in 1487, on the occasion of the dedication of the new temple in Tenochitlan, there were up to 80,000 were sacrificed in a single ceremony lasting 4 days. Pope John Paul II continued: +
ABORTION TODAY THE NUMBERS OVERWHELM In the 1930s, licensed physicians performed an estimate 800,000 abortions a year. Today, under Roe vs Wade, it is legal to kill preborns.. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), since 1973, roughly 50 million legal induced abortions have been performed in the United States.[38] World wide, there have been over 1,260,000,000 abortions performed. + THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT THE NUMBERS ARE GOING DOWN |
*BUILDING A TEMPLE* |
OVER THE CENTURIES - Christian chapels / temples / churches have been planted over temples of gods. Several examples below help us to understand this ancient tradition. Most recent was the pending mosque (Cordova) near the twin towers site in NY. This name comes from Cordova or Crdoba (Spanish - Arabic ), Cordova (English) Read below: + CORDOVA SPAIN VISIGOTHS TO CHRISTIANITY to MOORS AND BACK TO A CATHEDRAL Around 589Ad a Christian Visigothic Church was dedicated to St Vincent (See Council of Trent), then in 711, during the conquest of the Moors , 'THE GREAT MOSQUE OF CORDOBA' was built over the site. In 1492, the Christians recaptured the area and changed the mosque to Catholic Cathedral, THE CATHEDRAL MOSQUE OF CORDOBA. (the magnificent Cathedral has kept the mosque architecture in place and remains). + JERUSALEM Another example is the temple built over the site of where the crucifixion cross was found. Hadrian built a Roman temple over the site of the true cross. The crucifixion, in honor of Aphrodite. Around 355, Constantines Mother, St Helen had it torn down, to reveal the crucifix and the CHURCH OF THE HOLY SEPULCHER was built over the site of execution hill of the skull (Golgatha). This beautiful church may be visited today. + MEXICO In 1521, before the fall of the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan, on the hill called Tepeyac, where Mary would visit Juan Diego, there was an ancient temple built to honor the Aztec goddess Tonantzin (Our Revered Mother, mother earth, snake) , The Spaniards under Cortez. would level it to the ground. + On December 9 1531, (earl feast of the Immaculate Conception) our Lady requests a little temple be built on 'Tepeyac' on top of this ancient temple site. She wishes 'to manifest and give all of my love, compassion, help and protection' to all on earth. Again, not for her glory but for that of her son, Jesus present in the tabernacle. + HER REQUEST TO JUAN DIEGO
TO ALL ON EARTH! A beautiful call from Mary, star of the new Evangelization for all on earth! By the 17c the Basilica of Guadalupe was built at the base of the hill of Tepeyac in honor of the virgin where the tilma image still may be seen. Mary as Our Lady of Guadalupe carries the son of God in her womb - she is the church, the living tabernacle that protects Christ. + THE ONE WHO CRUSHES THE SERPENT Coatlaxopeuh meaning “the one who crushes the serpent” and that it may be referring to the feathered serpent Quetzalcoatl. |
*THE FLAG - A RARE LOOK* |
PATRONESS OF THE AMERICAS Note the blue mantle of our flag and the tilma of Juan Diego with stars! Then note the red and white rays around our Lady and the red and white stripes on our flag! +
+ (early copy and paste?) REPRODUCTIONS - WHY? Europe was in awe of this news of an image of Our Lady not made by human hands on a garment. They wanted to see it but it was an ocean away. With no media, no cameras, no computers, oiled paper was laid on top of the image and traced the exact size and shape as the original. This was done over and over again. + Artists painted these images over and over again on canvas and parchment, rolled them up and sent them to waiting audience all over Europe. The images above are two examples of this They may be seen at the Basilica Museum in Mexico City. + Just by chance? Coincidence? Or a God thing? |
*'TALKING EAGLE'* |
The great seal of the United States was adopted June 20th 1782. After a short bout with the turkey (Benjamin Franklin). The bald eagle won its permanent spot in 1789. Symbolism tells an interesting story below: + President Kennedy
OUT OF MANY, ONE In the left talon, the eagle holds a bundle of 13 arrows (13 original states) and in the right talon, an olive branch. The eagle faces the right to symbolize "The strong desire for peace, but will always be ready for war." In its beak it holds a scroll with the motto E pluribus unum ("Out of Many, One"). This massive bird that has a wingspan of from 6 to 8 feet +
COAT OF ARMS OF MEXICO STILL EVANGELIZING In the coat of arms of Mexico, the Golden Eagle stands on cactus and is holding a snake with his talons and mouth. The tilma (ayate) of Juan Diego was made of maguey cactus cloth that carried the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. + WHERE SHE CAME Also note the cactus is growing out of an island in the middle of water (Lake or Lago deTexcoco)). The Aztedz built the city of Tenochtitlan on the island and this is where Our Lady appeared in 1531. The Spaniards built Mexico City over Tenochtitlan. Thus still telling us the history of her visit! + TALKING EAGLE In 1474, Juan Diego was born Cuauhtatoatzin, (Talking Eagle) in Cuautitlan, "Place of the Eagle" (now part of MexicoCity). Around 1524 and 1525 he was converted and baptized Juan Diego, along with his wife, by a Franciscan Missionary, Fr Peter da Gund. Was he inspired to name 'Talking Eagle' - Juan - after John the Baptist (who is imaged as an Eagle?) + MARK 4:31-32
THE NEW EVANGELIST When you go back to the 16c it is interesting to note that the newly baptized Christians also saw Mary as the new evangelist, relating to St John the Evangelist, the eagle. Was the eagle an ancient symbol of Our Lady of Guadalupe? And the snake - how does the snake fit into the early symbolism? + THE MEXICAN FLAG The Mexican flag has changed over the years, sometimes showing the symbol above including that of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the center of the red, white, and green flag. The Coat of Arms of Mexico (above) shows the clear image better. + (1821) SEE 'PRICE OF FREEDOM FLAG' Flown after the Mexican Independence War. Colors: GREEN: independence, WHITE: purity of Catholic Church, RED: Blood of National Heroes (image available on web. + (1910-1920) VIVA CRISTO REY "Long Live Christ the King" (newer flag, originally only Guadalupe)
Remains the largest conflict in Mexican history. The challenging President of Mexico, Porfirio D?az unleashed warfare with many contending factions and regions including the the Catholic Church. + . (Chrisantos) Traditional colors symbolize RED: independence from Spain, GREEN: Union among Americans and Europeans, WHITE: Faith or belief in the Roman Catholic Church. This was soon to change + + (1968) MEXICAN FLAG TODAY:
GREEN: hope and prosperity WHITE: peace and harmony RED: blood of Mexican heroes. Adopted in 1968. But symbol stays the same, telling the history of Mexico. Again, for a better image, see the Coat of Arms of Mexico above. + JOHN PAUL II -2002 THE STAR AS OF OLD LEADS US ST JOHN THE EVANGELIST, THE EAGLE JUAN DIEGO, "THE TALKING EAGLE" "Beloved Juan Diego, the talking eagle! Show us the way that leads to the 'Dark Virgin' of Tepeyac, that she may receive us in the depths of her heart, for she is the loving, compassionate Mother who guides us to the true God. . . ." |
