AND OTHER ANCIENT OCEAN THINGS Going to Tucson is something like, if one could imagine, touring the basements of the Smithsonian might be like. After enjoying a few viewings of A Night at the Museum, one would almost be tempted to hide in a corner until the doors were locked for the night - then find ones way to the lower levels of the treasures unknown! + This first group of Ammonites are tiny, just inches - but we were fascinated by how beautiful and rich in color they were in their constrasting and badly beaten cardboard boxes. Note small scraps of foreign newspapers here and there, originally meant to be protective wrapping! |

MEANT TO DAZZLE THE IMAGINATION This next set of crystals begins the series of very very large works of nature. The crystal formations range from inches to 3+ feet tall and each captured its share of the brilliant Arizona sunshine. The crystal balls on the right were quite a site as they fought for their place in the sun! |

Some of these crystal rock formations were very large, ranging from 2 feet across. This one on the left made me think of an ice shove we see in the Great Lakes each spring but far smaller! + The fish fossil below is approx 3 feet x 5 feet across. It was hard to believe they were not in a museum of natural history somewhere where more people could see them. At the end of the week, these would be crated up and shipped back to some warehouse to collect dust till the next show. |

FORTH GOD'S PERFECT DESIGN The ammonites displayed below ranged anywhere from 18 in to 2.5 feet plus across. Absolutely breathtaking! And even more thought provoking when one realized it was the mouth of God that spoke each into being! |

Gives you an idea of how the Motels along I-10 are used, inside and out. It is just amazing to see how much is shipped in from all over the world, still smelling of old wood fires and unidentified herbs and spices. And then redirected to venders throughout the US and indeed, other countries, as well. + Every night, we price and crate our semi precious and antique beads for shipping the next morning from the local PO to home. Every year we hear stories about how overseas venders lose millions of dollars in diamonds, cut and uncut, to thieves who literally track their shipments every step of the way to the US. Some never make it here. + Our purchases are pittance, mostly antique beads - but it does make one realize the magnitude of the show. And, stands to remind us of exhibits we are not able to get into without proper identification intended to keep these high end critters out! |
