*RINA'S ROSARY* |
At the time of my conversion to the Christian Faith, God placed a remarkable and beloved friend in my life. She was a "revert" and prayed The Rosary faithfully. Rina prayed the Rosary in her car and while sitting in her living room chair and while taking a walk and in bed at the end of each day. It was a part of her "being". + Immediately I began carrying a Rosary in my pocket and used it for "focused" prayer. I would pray for the needs of each individual on my prayer list as I held each bead. Soon I felt "lost" without it, so it became my continual companion. This was Mary's astonishing way of taking my hand before I even understood my miraculous connection to her. She gently encouraged me through each step of greater faith in her Son, The Lord Jesus. The Rosary was in my pocket throughout Ecuador and I often touched or held it .... holding my Mother's hand. + What a wonder-filled experience when I my spirit finally connected with the Truth of The Catholic Faith. For when I said "Yes, I believe the teachings of The Church", I looked up and saw Our Lady through my tear-filled eyes. + Gentle, beautiful, tender, caring Mary. The perfect Handmaiden of The Lord. The perfect Servant of The Living God. The Lord Jesus' perfect provision for The Body ..... an eternal Mother to us all. Always pointing the way to her Son. Always inviting us to join her, standing in worship at the foot of The Cross. Always showing us the path toward submission and obedience. + After years of our wonderful friendship, my friend Rina developed lung cancer, which swiftly moved to her brain. I was fortunate to be one on a team of five people who cared for her at home, where she died. (I lived in the apartment below her in a 3-apartment house.) I was extravagantly fortunate to be there when she died. It was an experience filled with grace. What a legacy of faith she left behind with her many friends. I came to The Catholic Church after her death. I have often imagined how pleased she would have been to be there for my Confirmation. And part of me thinks she probably already knows. She was my link to The Rosary and Our Lady ... and Mary lead me Home. + God is so good. All the time! Let us praise His Name together, forever! Under the Mercy, Jeanne Jenkins (PA) |
*'MY MISSION TRIP'* |
Seven years ago I was part of a "hardship" mission trip to the Andes mountains in ECUADOR. There were 8 Americans and a few Europeans, headed up by three missionaries who have lived in the country for over 20 years. We traveled to 14,000 ft. in the Andes and lived in a Quechua Indian village for the duration of our trip. It was like "time travel", because they live in the same manner as about 300 years ago. No water, no electricity. Very cold (the altitude). Absolutely no access to heath care. Over 50% baby death rate. Meager diet. No sanitary awareness. + We worked with them on a water project - one of an endless series of teams over years to bring this together. A deep well had been dug at the top of the mountain long before. We worked on the piping to bring water with a spigot to one hut (home) for one family. We also had the remarkable opportunity to deliver to this village a carton of the first translation into Quechua of the New Testament! It was a wonder-filled few weeks that was overlayed with the Glory of God. I have never felt so continuously close to Our Lord as during the entire time in Ecuador. It was such a gift to be a part of this special time. + And God was performing a very remarkable work in my heart - I fell in love with the Quechua people and the country of Ecuador. And he was pointing me "home" to the Catholic Church - for I went on this trip as an Evangelical non-denomination (but some category of Protestant) Christian. This was one solid brick in the foundation that became my conversion into The Catholic Faith. + I can only see the path I took by looking back at how I got Home. However, this was a huge step - because I was irrationally afraid of South America my whole life and I went on this trip in true obedience to The Lord. I struggled through two solid days of prayer, arguing with God about why I could NOT go. And he gently and clearly lead me to understand that I must. And I obeyed. And He gave me a gift beyond price from that moment forward. All fear left me from the moment of that submission to Him. I prepared for the trip with great anticipation and excitement. And I came back to Massachusetts from Ecuador with a changed heart. One huge step closer to knowing my way Home - and the wonder of knowing Our Lady. My ultimate Mother. God is so good. *'LEARN THE ROSARY'* |
I had an experience of the Blessed Mother many years ago (about 15 years ago) who said to me, "Learn to Pray the Rosary." I was protestant at that time, but got a Catholic friend to teach me how to pray it. I used to pray it on the First Saturdays in honor of the Blessed Mother. I did that for years. Then I gradually started praying the rosary more and more. Three years ago I converted to Catholicism at Holy Rosary church in Washington, DC. I pray the rosary every day now, and belong to the Rosary Confraternity. + I like to give rosaries to people with the cards and booklets on how to pray it. I have given away rosaries for a while now, and also have permission to leave them in St. Matthew's Cathedral, which I sometimes do. I would like to make and get a lot more rosaries to pass on this life saving prayer which Our Lady loves so much. Diane Maria B (VA) |
